sports day 2006 was held yesterday, and i was very unamused. i always thought sports day was some lame tradition cooked up by those people down at the MOE and MOH to encourage healthy competition and healthy lifestyles into students. besides that, sports days were days where there was a lot of fanfare, excitement and unbeatable atmosphere. from the house system in pri school, to the cca system in sec school, sports day was always about supporting ur fellow house/cca-mates.
this year's sports day was seriously boring. atmosphere was lacking terribly. cds as usual started off the cheering spree. nothing much followed, however. choir and band were mysteriously quiet. even we, the Chinese Drama were a few decibels short of our normal volume. the u-gs, once audible by the performing arts, even though they were at the far side of the stadium made hardly a whimper this time, with the exception of ncc's drums...sports day fell flat. nobody seemed to be in the mood to cheer on each other.
cheering competition was a nightmare. for the first time i went into it lacking any confidence whatsover that we could win it. i was right, of course. edc won the trophy for the first time and ncc was denied a third trophy. so far the tally goes: CDS (4-times champion), NCC (2-times champion) and EDC (1-time champion). we're still quite far ahead by the way.
nevertheless, no thanks to the scorching sun and lack of wind and shade, i went home with a throbbing headache and i had to miss the reinhard bonnke conference. can u imagine??? his last time in singapore. i tot i could go today, by guess wad, i was only informed THIS morning that it's my grandpa's bdae today and the dinner is tonight!!! why??? i guess dvds will suffice for now until he comes back to asia again. maybe if he goes to malaysia, i will make it a point to travel to our dear northern neighbour to hear him. he's not a famous evangelist for nothing...
anyway, more on our northern neighbour, seems like dear Dr M, who is lamblasting his HANDPICKED SUCCESSOR right now, wanted to bomb singapore. well, good thing he's out of office now...if he had stayed on a few more years, we could all be swimming in the johor straits with the toxic fish and oil spills.
afterthoughts:
next post: pictures of sports day.
the Da Vinci code tries to tarnish the good name of Jesus Christ, but fails pathetically.
