afterwards, we sent sok off to malaysia at this bus terminal that looked strangely like those kinds in the hk tv dramas when the actors would go before the boarded the bus to shenzhen. it looked exactly like those kinds. after sok left, soo hwee came, and we just randomly walked around before going on bus 197 coz i had to go to church and they wanted to go to bedok.
it was good to meet up with them, even though it was just a short while, nevertheless, we were all very happy to meet up and talk. i guess we all just missed each other lots. haiz...surprisingly, we were all emo-ing at the same time about the same thing on friday. it was quite spectacular.
after church, i went with some of the guys to the closing ceremony of the National Stadium. the match against australia where we lost 3-0 was boring, though singapore did play quite well. (random nugget of information: the first ever match at the national stadium was a hockey match against australia, where we lost 3-0 as well!) coincidences abound...
it was quite an emotional closing ceremony, the hosts, brian and mark richmond were recounting significant events that happened at the stadium, and the entire team singapore marched in in a lap of honour with singapore's only olympic medallist, Tan Howe Liang bearing the singapore flag. we were closest to the fireworks, and it was indeed, quite a spectacle.
it was a night to remember, and it was special to me, having been in this national stadium four times this year, watching in the flesh, one of the most memorable matches ever, singapore vs malaysia, where we won by a penalty shootout, and watching RJ beat MJ 1-0 in the soccer final. i guess the stadium will always bear some special memories. and i do hope that the next stadium, will be even more beautiful than before and will truly embody singapore's sporting glory and history, whatever little of it there might be.
so, it was a saturday to remember. a lunch with old friends, an evening in church and a night of commemeration of one of the icons of Singapore.
