i really do not know what is going through their minds right now. are they scared? do they feel regret? or are they looking forward to the crown laid for them in heaven, knowing that they have died in service to Christ. whatever it is, i must say their courage, their faith and their fervour has won them great respect from me. their story, along with the stories of thousands of missionaries who risk their lives every day spreading the gospel, helping the less fortunate, and devoting their lives to making other people's lives better is truly an inspiration. it makes you think, would i be able to do the same, would i be willing to pack up and go to some militant-infested country with a zero guarantee of safety. it does take a character of faith to bid au revoir to the comfort of his home and rough it out in some lower-than-third world nation.
i am constantly inspired by the work of missionaries, and they have been around for as long as the gospel was around. Apostle Paul is probably the first great missionary, taking the gospel to Rome for the Romans to hear. throughout history, thousand of faithful men and women braved the dangers to tell the world the Jesus lives and at the same time, extend a helping hand to people mired in poverty and other social dysfunctions. from David Livingstone to Reinhard Bonnke, they all played a significant role in shaping many societies today. i admire missionaries, in fact, i had thought that i might even be one some day.
to the 23 South Korean missionaries, my prayers are with you. through it all, God is in control, and His glory shall be revealed, i have absolutely no doubt about it. ironic as it sounds, are these Koreans religious extremists? well, it takes extreme faith, extreme love, extreme obedience and extreme courage to plant oneself into a situation like that. extremism, may not always be a dirty word.
Pray for them.
