Class Adventure Camp
we went to pulau ubin for the camp and i do regret not being able to stay for the whole duration of the camp. throughout the time i was there, it was good to see the camaraderie that was built up during the trekking and even lunch. im sure that there was more fun at night, but regretfully, i was not there. we went to chek jawa and boy is that place beautiful. it's quite surreal, considering that we were still in singapore territory. no one would believe it with that beautiful red-brick house, long jetty and smashing coastline and seaview. but in the horizon, the HDB flats in Pasir Ris remind you that you are still very much in the Lion City.
nevertheless, i did feel that the camp did serve its purpose of bonding the class together, just like it did for a certain 3Jo5 of AHS in sentosa sometime back. it was indeed a good time to just get out the classroom and away from the books and boring lectures and get to know one another better. i do wish that it was longer however. still, i think class adventure camp on the whole was good.
Meet the People Session
i went for my inagural meet-the-people session (MPS) at Tampines GRC on monday (which was why i could not stay for camp) and boy was it an eye-opener. the good news about economic growth and record number of jobs created and booming stock market just didnt seem real when you hear about people who dont have enough money for transport and whole families of seven staying in a 2-room flat. it was quite an experience for me. My MP, Ms Irene Ng, was really nice. she was very friendly and allowed us to follow her all the way, watching how she worked and how she talked with the people. i was seriously impressed how she managed to see so many people and how she handled every situation so professionally, even when she was dealing with people who had lame problems which really didnt warrant her attention.
nevertheless, i did enjoy myself and i am looking forward to the next session on monday. i am, however, quite apprehensive about the huge mass of PAP memoribilia and pictures all over the place. it did feel quite weird.
National Day Celebrations @ RJC
we had a very impressive national day celebrations. good job councillors and organising committee! it had better be good considering $30000 was spent on the extravaganza. Raffles Believe It Or Not was really cool and there were many cool games which i did not take part in since the people i was with didnt really feel like doing anything. the school also catered quite a bit of food for us and most of the time was spent queuing for food, which was quite irritating actually.
the night celebrations were quite a treat, a visual spectacle if i may say. considering it was put up in a school and done by school people, it was really good. the dances, songs and teachers' items were fantastic. i wasnt too sure about the mr and miss singapore thing tho, it did feel a little like prom night all over again...if i had one grouse, it would have to be the lack of atmosphere and audience participation. few people were singing along to the national day songs, which really dampened the atmosphere, and the blatant lack of respect for mr hodge's speech and the promethean ceremony was disappointing. however, i did enjoy myself and i had a good time 自-highing throughout the night. and it was a good feeling that BW won the IHCs! (albeit tying with BB). i do regret not taking part in RBION, for all you know i could have won it for BW. haha. i wish...
National Day eve
nothing spectacular. i slacked at home, watching daytime tv and then went to watch The Simpsons (funny stuff). then i went to aljunied for chuxiye outing, where i was the only guy sadly, after being pangsehed by yeokseng and shiju. we ate this really nice claypot rice and went to yunzhi's house to watch a movie. not too bad a way to spend a free day.
National Day
went to church in the morning for youth leaders meeting and after that, went home to slack for awhile before going over to Philemon's house to watch the Parade (something of an annual ritual already). the draw was being able to watch the fireworks. you can see the city from their house! what a view! it also made me think how small singapore is. it was quite a good way to spend national day, with friends, good food and a fireworks display to boot.
so, it's been quite a week and i thank God for this one-week break. i shall slack for now. i guess when school reopens next week, i shall hunker down and hit the books. 5 weeks to promos. better start studying. i've been very slack and i suppose i should start doing something now. but let me just enjoy my last week of slacking...
