just came back from my auntie's house. she had a housewarming cum house dedication. pretty nice house. though some would say it's a step down from their big terrace house but they're getting old and their children are getting married and i guess they dont need such a big house anymore. i miss their old house tho, we had our family gatherings there coz it was big enough for the whole family. and we had countless birthday/christmas/baby first month celebrations there, so it is quite a sentimental place. i remember staying there twice before when my parents were out of town.
but anws, speaking of getting married, i found out that three of my cousins are getting married this year. three! weddings! how exciting. im not really a wedding person, but these three cousins are sort of closer to me so i guess it's like my own big sisters growing up and getting married. makes me feel kinda old, coz i do remember when they were still secondary school students taking care of this little pri school kid when i went to visit my auntie for mahjong sessions every sat. that was before i learnt how to go out by myself and had to follow mum wherever she went. so it's like i grew up together with them, tho it was more of they growing up together, and i struggling to catch up. my brothers and i have always been the babies of the family, that is until my older cousins grew up and started having their own babies. mum is the youngest daughter, and we had quite a big age gap between our other cousins. so they had a headstart getting together. also, when we were young, we were hopeless at chinese, not to mention teochew, so while they were bantering away in some weird language to us then, we were staying in a corner amusing ourselves.
gosh, now we're all grown up. there are like 4 babies in the family (though one is strictly speaking, a toddler) and my brothers and i are no longer the youngest kids in the family already. i cant believe how fast people grow up. especially this particular cousin of mine. i remember her teaching me how to play mahjong when i think she was barely out of secondary school. and now she's getting married! it's like whoa!
marriage is a big thing i guess. not so much now with people becoming 'less conservative'. but here's wishing all my cousins getting married a very happy marriage and hope u give birth to tons of babies so that the aunties can continue fawning on them and we'll watch them grow up, just like we did, as the circle of life continues...
