it's been pretty long since i've updated, and it seems like this blog is pretty dead. but who cares anw?
it's been a pretty good past few weeks, CT results were encouraging, to be positive, at least there were improvements in some areas. Prelims are coming in 5 more weeks (not including sept holidays) and it seems weird that i havent even started mugging yet. C'mon Noah! what the hell are you doing slacking?!
but anw, went to the Scholar's Choice and US education fair on Sunday organised by Straits Times recruit and attended the tea session, only to find out that it was pretty useless because the people attending the tea session would be going for the RJC Scholarship Day as well. in fact, almost all the people i met in the PSC roadshow and the Scholars' Choice fair will be coming for Scholarship Day, which is next Sat. the more interesting thing was to see the long, long double rows of US universities. the whole lot went down, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Cornell, Brown, Dartmouth, Columbia and other Ivy League-rs. there were also the non-Ivy League, but still damn imba unis like the UCs - UCLA, UC Berkeley, and UVa, NYU, etc...
going there was sort of an intimidating experience, not least because we had to jostle with hundreds of others aspiring youth to speak to the students of the universities, and you stop to realise what a huge dream you're chasing and how many people are competing with you. what a competitive society Singapore is, every one wants to get a place in Stanford, Yale, Princeton, blah blah.
which makes me wonder, why is it that people see NUS as a second-choice, or like some of my friends, even third- or fourth-choice option, after SMU no less. it's the time of the year when Year 2s get distracted from mugging for Prelims to stress over which unis to apply for and what courses to take and whether they'll get a scholarship to send them to their dream college in the States. alas, i suppose i have to put things in context and place priority on Prelims instead of worrying about this and SGC and teachers' recommendations, etc...
for me, like most Singaporean youth i do harbour thoughts of leaving this small little island to pursue a higher education in 'the land of the free and the home of the brave' on a government scholarship to come back and be bonded to the very fulfilling public sector. haha. no sarcasm intended. but there, i said it. but things aren't that easy, nor as smooth, and i'd be a fool not to recognise that. so till then, i shall get back to my mugging...
